Core Journal Indexing Criteria

BIBNEX evaluates journal identity, publishing practices, editorial transparency, metadata quality and technical accessibility before inclusion.

Valid Journal Identity

  • Clearly identifiable journal title.
  • Valid print and/or online ISSN where applicable.
  • Consistent journal title across website and metadata.
  • Publisher identity must be clearly disclosed.

Journal Website

  • Active and publicly accessible journal website.
  • Journal scope and aims must be available.
  • Published issues and article records should be accessible.
  • Contact and publisher information should be visible.

Editorial Transparency

  • Editor-in-Chief information should be available.
  • Editorial board members should be identifiable.
  • Institutional affiliations should be provided where applicable.
  • Editorial roles should be presented accurately.

Peer Review Policy

  • Peer review process should be clearly described.
  • Review model should be disclosed.
  • Editorial decision procedures should be defined.
  • Journal should not make misleading review claims.

Publication Regularity

  • Declared publication frequency should be stated.
  • Publication history should broadly match declared frequency.
  • Unexplained publication gaps may require review.
  • Issue sequencing should be reasonably consistent.

Publication Ethics

  • Publication ethics policy should be available.
  • Plagiarism and research misconduct procedures should be defined.
  • Correction and retraction policies should be available where applicable.
  • Conflicts of interest should be addressed.

Article Metadata Quality

  • Article title and author information should be available.
  • Publication date, volume and issue should be identifiable.
  • Abstract and keywords are recommended.
  • DOI information should be accurate where assigned.

DOI & Persistent Identifiers

  • DOIs are preferred where available.
  • DOI metadata should correspond with article metadata.
  • Persistent article URLs should remain functional.
  • Invalid or misleading identifiers may trigger review.

Open Access & Licensing

  • Open-access status should be clearly disclosed.
  • Licensing terms should be visible where applicable.
  • Copyright ownership should be described.
  • Author rights should not be misleadingly represented.

Publication Charges

  • APCs or other author charges should be disclosed.
  • Waiver policies should be stated where applicable.
  • Charges should not be hidden from authors.
  • Payment must not be represented as a guarantee of acceptance.

Technical Accessibility

  • Journal website should be reasonably accessible.
  • Published article pages should remain available.
  • Metadata harvesting support such as OAI-PMH is encouraged.
  • Broken or inaccessible content may affect evaluation.

Transparency & Authenticity

  • Journal information should be accurate and verifiable.
  • Misleading indexing claims are not acceptable.
  • Editorial identities should not be misrepresented.
  • Publisher and ownership information should be transparent.

Journal applications may be assessed using information supplied by the publisher together with publicly available journal and article metadata.

Continuous Monitoring

Inclusion is not necessarily permanent. Selected publication, citation, metadata and transparency indicators may continue to be monitored after a journal enters BIBNEX.
